I’m hoping you can help me. A friend of mine got a smile makeover from your clinic and it was gorgeous. I was so blown away by her smile that I decided to get my own. I live in a different state, so I couldn’t go to your clinic, but I hope you don’t mind me asking for help. My experience was different. I am quite disappointed with my smile. I got the same materials she did–porcelain veneers. What could have gone wrong? The color is white, but doesn’t look natural. It looks kind of dull and flat.

Leslie,
I wouldn’t be able to tell you exactly what your dentist needs to do, expecially since I haven’t seen your case, but I can guess what the problem is.
It takes a significant amount of post-graduate training in cosmetic techniques to know what your doing. It also take an artistic eye. It’s possible your dentist is missing one or both of these factors, especially since the color is unnatural looking on your porcelain veneers.
Most people don’t realize that cosmetic dentistry is not an official specialty with the ADA. Any dentist can call themselves a cosmetic dentist, regardless of their qualifications.
If I were in your place, I would get a second opinion from a great cosmetic dentist. Go to the mynewsmile.com website and see who they recommend for your area. They only recommend the most artistic and technically proficient cosmetic dentists.
