I have been researching cosmetic dentists. One of my friends really likes her cosmetic dentist. I went to see him. He was really nice, but his teeth looked pretty bad to me. I feel uncomfortable going to a dentist for cosmetic work if I think his teeth are unattractive. Am I being too shallow?

Melissa,
I don’t think you’re being shallow. You have to have confidence in your cosmetic dentist. Though, I would be careful not to confuse taste with skill. It might be that you and he have different taste in what you like a smile to look like. That doesn’t necessarily mean that he couldn’t give you the smile that you wanted.
True cosmetic dentists care more about what you think of your smile than what they think of your smile. Many of them will even have a beautiful smile guarantee, meaning that your case isn’t closed until you’re thrilled.
The key is to make sure you get not only a skilled cosmetic dentist, but an artistic one as well. It takes a significant amount of post-graduate training to do this well.
One way to find a great cosmetic dentist is to go to the mynewsmile.com website. They list expert cosmetic dentists by state. A dentist cannot pay to be a recommended dentist on their site. Instead, they have to demonstrate their training, knowledge, and artistry in order to be listed on the site.
I’d see who they have for Nebraska. It would be well worth it even if you had to drive an hour away.
